The Whole Body Counter (internal radiation exposure measuring device) is a non-invasive device for measuring how much radioactivity has built up within the body through ingestion. Scientific measurements are also important for dispelling concern about radioactivity.
Germanium semiconductor detectors and NaI(TI) scintillation detectors are used to measure radioactive materials in foods, breast milk, drinking water and other items that humans ingest.
